Koufonisia Islands
Koufonisia are the best-known islands of the Minor Cyclades, the ones which attract most people during the summer.
As a result, more hotels, pensions and rented rooms have been built here.
Thankfully, all in a traditional architectural style. Freshly painted in white, house-proud, with arches and blue doors and windows, they look like dolls houses, creating, from the very first moment that you see them from the boat, warm and pleasant feelings.
No, tourism has not damaged the Koufonisia. On the contrary, it has had a positive effect.
What is certain is that the virgin beaches no longer exist, where your footprints along the sand were the only ones for miles.
Now, along the nearer beaches at least, there is at least one little hotel, a few houses and some bathers. Even so, there are so many beaches which stretch out for such a long way, that visitors soon get lost in them.
The port, with its plethora of vessels, is striking. Boats, caiques, yachts, they express the liveliness which characterises the island.
It is said that the fishing fleet of the Koufonisia is one of the biggest in all the Cyclades.
