Mohlos
Littoral, fishermen`s group of houses with few inhabitants, 48km east of Agios Nicholaos, 25km north from Ierapetra, and 35 km west from Sitia.
Ideal place for peaceful vacations.
Opposite, there is the islet of Agios Nikolaos with the homonymous church. Remarkable and beautiful the village of Lastros, 7.5km southwards. It is believed that in the Early Copper Age the islet of Agios Nicolas was probably connected with the opposite coast of Sitia by an isthmus. Two small ports are formed at its both sides.
Worth seeing places:
The ruins of groups of houses of the Middle Minoan and the Hysterominoan Period. Tombs of the Early Minoan Period, which look like habitations.
They probably belonged to powerful families, as it appears by the rich things found: mainly golden jewels and crowns, stamps, pots of stone, dedicatory double axes and a famous golden ring with the representation of a goddess in a peculiar kind of a ship-boat.
In 1989, the excavations started again by the archaeologists J.Soles and C.Davaras, on the whole island.
The byzantine church of Agios Georgios, in Lastros, 7.5km south of Mochlos.
A Venetian church bell with sculptured representation is saved, dated in 1609.
